Google AI Mode: Why Your Content Isn’t Showing Up

ai tools for online business Nov 26, 2025

Google's AI mode represents the most significant shift in search technology in over two decades. I've been closely monitoring this evolution, and I'm seeing firsthand how it's changing the way people discover content online. More importantly, I'm hearing from clients that they're finding me through AI recommendations rather than traditional search methods.

This transformation isn't something to fear if you're creating content. The foundation of showing up in AI mode still relies heavily on SEO principles, which means much of what you're already doing remains relevant. I've identified three core strategies that determine whether your content appears in these AI-generated results, and I'm going to walk you through each one based on my own experience ranking in Google's new search interface.

Key Takeaways

  • AI mode prioritizes well-structured, SEO-optimized content that includes keywords in titles, descriptions, and tags.
  • Leveraging high-authority platforms like YouTube or LinkedIn increases your visibility more effectively than relying solely on your own domain.
  • Video content consistently outranks written articles in AI search results because it provides higher engagement value.

Understanding Google's AI Mode

Key Features and User Experience

When you open Google, you'll see a small AI button in the search interface. This indicates that AI mode has rolled out in your country. The rollout is happening country by country.

Instead of using just the standard Google search bar, you can click on AI mode. This uses AI and Gemini to augment your searches. It functions more as a collaborative chat feature.

You can also visit search.google.com to see how Google augments its search. There are AI overviews and now AI mode. The AI mode appears as another tab in the top left corner. You can switch back to normal search mode by clicking on the "all" tab.

When you use AI mode with a question like "what is Kajabi Hero Live," the AI overview kicks in straight away. If it's not a question, AI overview might not appear and it will just list the top 10 blue links. You can click "show me more" to see relevant videos and content.

You can scroll through the results and see multiple videos and articles. You can have a deeper dive in AI mode and use it like a large language model. You can go back and forth and have a chat with this AI mode about your current query.

When you click on the little link, it shows you where it's getting that information from. It searches the entire web from multiple places and then generates a response. This is generative AI, generating that response and giving it to you in a summary.

Comparing Traditional Search and AI Mode

Single query, single result set

Shows sources with generated summaries

In normal Google search results, you might see standard rankings without additional context. With a query like "how to edit videos using YouTube Studio Editor," you get a summary in regular search, but AI mode allows you to delve deeper by asking the AI mode back and forth.

AI mode searches the internet from multiple places and generates a response, showing you how many places, articles, and videos it searched to generate a solution. You can see where AI mode is bringing the information from and explore the content it recommends.

The difference is that AI mode doesn't just respond to one query. It actually searches the internet from multiple sources and then generates a comprehensive response. You can see all the videos and articles that it's pulling from to create its answer.

Getting Started with the New Search Interface

How to Identify AI Mode Availability

If you see a little AI button when you open Google, then you will know that AI mode has rolled out into your country. It's been rolled out country by country.

You no longer have to just use the Google search bar. You can click on AI mode. This uses AI and Gemini to actually augment your searches.

It's more of a collaborative chat function. You can even go to search.google.com. This is basically how Google augments its search.

You can have a look at the overview. AI and search are new ways to search. There are AI overviews and now AI mode.

You can click on AI mode and have a read up on what this new functionality incorporates. Then you can just try it now and that will take you straight back to AI mode.

Switching Between AI Mode and Standard Search

It's simply another tab on the top left corner. You can go back into the normal search mode with Google just by clicking on the all tab.

When you're in AI mode, you can delve deeper by asking the AI back and forth. If your query is not a question, AI overview might not kick in. It might just list that top 10 blue links as it were.

If you wanted to click into AI mode from standard search, you can delve a little bit deeper asking that AI mode back and forth. You can use this like a little bit of a large language model. You can go back and forth and have a chat with this AI mode about your current query.

Optimizing Content Structure for AI Discovery

Crafting Keyword-Focused Articles and Videos

I make sure my content is well structured and SEOable. This is the foundation, the 80% that needs to be in place to show up in AI mode.

For my blog articles, I use Kajabi as my platform. I link my YouTube video into each blog post and ensure I have an SEO or keyword-rich article. Here's what I focus on:

  • URL slug: Contains all the main keywords
  • Page title: Includes the keywords
  • Page description: Features the keywords
  • Thumbnail: Uses recommended dimensions

For my YouTube videos, I follow the same approach. I make sure the title has my main keywords in there. The description also contains the main keywords. I use tags as well, which helps me see how the video is ranking and includes the main keywords.

My approach: Wherever Google and YouTube give you an area where you can put keywords, descriptions, or titles, make sure they are keyword-rich.

This is how I publish YouTube videos and blog posts with highly SEO-ed or keyword-rich articles and videos. This allows me to rank in normal YouTube search, and the AI mode or AI overview will scrape those SEO ranking posts and show them up in AI mode.

The Role of Metadata: Titles, Descriptions, and Tags

I treat metadata as critical components for AI discovery. Each element serves a specific purpose in helping AI mode find and recommend my content.

Titles need to be keyword-focused and specific. I create titles that match exact queries people might search for, like "What is Kajabi Hero Live?" or "How to edit videos using YouTube Studio Editor."

Descriptions must contain the main keywords throughout the text. I don't just add keywords once—I ensure they appear naturally in the description where they make sense.

Tags function as my way of seeing how videos rank, but I also use the main keywords in there. They provide another signal to the AI about what my content covers.

When I published a video about Google Gemini gems just over a month ago, it showed up in AI mode because I had optimized all these metadata elements. The AI overview pulled from my content and displayed it alongside other sources.

The key is consistency. Every piece of metadata—title, description, tags, URL slug, page title, page description—should align with your target keywords. This structured approach gives AI mode clear signals about what your content addresses and when to recommend it.

Leveraging Platform Authority for Greater Visibility

Understanding Domain Authority Scores

I use a tool called Ubersuggest to check domain authority scores, which are measured out of 100. My website built on Kajabi has a domain authority of just 7 out of 100. This is the reality for solo creators putting out blog posts on their own websites.

Google looks at authority when ranking content. My homepage doesn't have much authority despite having numerous blog posts. However, my YouTube channel shows a domain authority of 100 out of 100.

I'm leveraging an already existing platform with YouTube. It's the second biggest platform in the world based on web pages and traffic. My company listing on Companies House in the UK has a domain authority of 65 out of 100 because of the massive number of companies listed there.

Here's how different platforms compare:

Benefits of Publishing on High-Authority Platforms

It's far easier to leverage another platform rather than your own domain because your own domain might only have a very low domain authority score. Google and AI mode see low domain authority as a negative signal.

I don't see many of my blog posts from my website ranking high in AI mode. I see many of my videos ranking because I'm leveraging YouTube. This is why I focus on YouTube as one of my primary platforms.

I recommend focusing on one platform at a time. Choose a platform with the highest possible domain authority to give yourself the best chance of showing up in search.

When I ask potential clients where they found me, I hear "I found you with AI" or "AI recommended one of your videos" more often now. This demonstrates the practical value of publishing on high-authority platforms.

You may be leveraging other platforms, but my advice is to use those platforms for their domain authority. This gives you the best possible chance of showing up in search results and AI mode.

Maximizing Impact with Video Content

Advantages of Video in Search Rankings

Video shows up higher in search rankings in AI mode and AI overview than articles. People are consuming videos over articles, which makes video content more valuable for search visibility.

When I create video content, I'm hitting multiple factors that help with ranking. Video serves as high-quality content that AI searches favor. This gives me an advantage in appearing in search results.

I've tested this with specific queries. When I searched "what is Kajabi Hero Live," my video appeared in the AI overview. The AI mode pulled from my video content to generate its response. I could see my videos listed multiple times when showing all results.

Key benefits of video content:

  • Higher visibility in AI overviews
  • Increased consumption rates compared to articles
  • Multiple appearance opportunities in search results
  • Better engagement from searchers

I found similar results when searching "what are Google Gemini gems." My video from just over a month ago ranked in the results. The AI mode showed which videos it was pulling information from, and mine was included.

For the query "how to edit videos using YouTube Studio Editor," I ranked in normal Google search results. Users could then click into AI mode and delve deeper, asking questions back and forth while my content remained part of the source material.

Integrating YouTube with Blogs for Enhanced Reach

I use a platform called Kajabi for all my blogs. I link my YouTube video into each blog to maximize my reach. This strategy combines written content with video content on the same topic.

For my blog posts, I make sure I have SEO or keyword-rich content. I focus on these elements:

  • URL slug with main keywords
  • Page title containing keywords
  • Page description optimized for search
  • Thumbnail using recommended dimensions

With YouTube, I follow the same approach. My title has my main keywords in it. The description includes the main keywords also. I use tags as my way of seeing how the video is ranking, and I include the main keywords there too.

My publishing workflow:

  1. Create SEO-optimized blog post on Kajabi
  2. Upload corresponding YouTube video
  3. Embed YouTube video in blog post
  4. Optimize both with same keywords

Google and YouTube provide areas where I can put keywords, descriptions, and titles. I make sure they are keyword-rich. This is how I publish a YouTube video and a blog post with highly SEOed or keyword-rich articles and videos.

The AI mode or AI overview scrapes those SEO ranking posts and shows them up in search results. I put out at least one YouTube video per week because I'm focusing on Google and YouTube.

I'm hearing more often now from people saying they found me with AI or AI recommended one of my videos. The AI actually searched the internet from multiple places and generated a response using my content. It's not just responding to one query—it pulls from multiple videos and articles, then generates a summary.

This integration strategy works because I'm leveraging YouTube's domain authority of 100 out of 100 while also maintaining my blog content. The combination gives me more opportunities to appear in both traditional search results and AI-powered searches.

Analyzing Real-World Ranking Examples

Search Result Behaviors in AI Mode

When you enter a query into Google AI mode, the system behaves differently depending on how you phrase your search. If it's not a question, AI overview might not kick in and it might just list that top 10 blue links.

I tested this with the search "what is Kajabi Hero Live?" and the AI overview kicked in straight away. When I clicked "show me more," one of my videos about Kajabi Hero Live appeared. The video explained what it is, where it is, and when the last one was.

You can scroll down and see another one of my videos in there. Then you can have a deeper dive in AI mode and use this like a large language model. You can go back and forth and have a chat with this AI mode about your current query.

When I clicked "show all," there were more videos to the right. This demonstrates how powerful video is when you have a very specific query or a very specific title for your content that's keywordrich and SEOable.

For another test, I searched "what are Google Gemini gems?" My video from just over a month ago appeared in the rankings. This video was listed in the actual ranking, and when I looked into AI mode, I could see what videos were popping up and what articles it was recommending.

The third example I used was "how to edit videos using YouTube Studio Editor." This gave me a summary without a full AI overview, but I was ranking in the normal Google search results. If you wanted to, you could click into AI mode and delve a little bit deeper by asking that AI mode back and forth.

How Google Sources and Presents Information

AI mode searches the entire web and pulls from multiple places before generating a response. You can click on the little link to see where it's getting that information from.

It's not just responding to one query. It's going to search the internet from multiple places and then it's generating a response. This is generative AI generating that response and giving it to you in a summary.

When you look at the results, you can see all the videos and articles that this is pulling from. The system displays:

  • Videos from platforms like YouTube
  • Articles from various websites
  • Multiple sources for each query

I found that my content shows up because I'm hitting three specific criteria:

  1. Very specific query or title
  2. Keywordrich and SEOable content
  3. Leveraging a platform like YouTube with high domain authority

My video about Kajabi Hero Live appeared because it was over a year old but still relevant. My Google Gemini gems video was just over a month ago and showed up in the rankings. These examples demonstrate how AI mode actually brings information from different places and how many sources it searches before generating a solution.

The AI mode allows you to see where it's pulling information from and how it's combining multiple sources to create comprehensive answers. This transparency shows you exactly which articles and videos contributed to the generated response.

Building a Sustainable Online Presence

Choosing the Right Platforms for Growth

I focus on Google and YouTube, putting out at least one YouTube video and one article per week. This approach has shifted how potential clients find me online.

When I chat with potential clients now, I'm hearing something different than before. Early on, it was word of mouth or network marketing. Then it progressed to finding my videos on YouTube or articles on Google. Now, more often than not, people tell me AI recommended one of my videos.

Domain Authority Matters

I use a tool called Uber Suggest to check domain authority scores out of 100. My website built on Kajabi has a domain authority of 7 out of 100. My YouTube channel has a domain authority of 100 out of 100 because I'm leveraging an already existing platform.

100/100

Instagram

94/100

65/100

It's far easier to leverage another platform rather than your own domain because your own domain might only have a very low domain authority score. Google and AI mode is going to see that as really low.

I don't see too many of my blog posts straight from my website ranking that high in AI mode. I see a lot of my videos ranking because I am leveraging YouTube. My advice would be to leverage those platforms for the domain authority in order to get the best possible chance of showing up in search.

Consistent Content Creation Best Practices

I link my YouTube video into each blog post on Kajabi. I make sure I have an SEO or keyword-rich blog post with proper optimization elements.

Blog Post Optimization

For SEO and sharing, I include:

  • URL slug with all the main keywords
  • Page title with keywords
  • Page description with keywords
  • Recommended dimensions for thumbnails

YouTube Video Optimization

I do exactly the same approach with YouTube. The title has my main keywords in there. The description includes the main keywords also. Tags are my way of seeing how the video is ranking, and I use the main keywords there too.

Google and YouTube give you areas where you can put keywords, descriptions, and titles. Make sure they are keyword-rich.

Content Structure Requirements

The first thing is to have good structured SEOable content. This is the 8020 rule. If you are focusing in on having search engine optimized content, whether that be a blog article or a YouTube video, you're almost all of the way there with this new AI search.

AI is going to crawl current SEO or highly ranked SEO articles and videos. That's the basis. That's the 80% that you should already have in play to show up in AI mode.

Video Content Advantage

Video shows up even higher in the search rankings in AI mode and AI overview than articles because people are consuming those videos over articles. For me, that third step is leveraging YouTube video as well as leveraging the domain authority.

If you're not running ads and doing organic content marketing, try to create as high quality content as possible. If you have a very specific query or a very specific title for your content that is keyword-rich and SEOable, and it's leveraging a platform like YouTube, LinkedIn, or Instagram with high quality video, these are the three things that work with specific search queries.

Action Steps for Content Creators

I focus on three core action steps to show up in Google's AI mode. These steps work together to maximize visibility in this new search experience.

Step 1: Create Keyword-Rich, SEO-Structured Content

The foundation is search engine optimization. AI mode crawls highly ranked SEO articles and videos, so I make sure my content is optimized from the start.

For my blog posts on Kajabi, I implement the following:

  • Link my YouTube video into each blog post
  • Use keyword-rich URL slugs
  • Include keywords in the page title
  • Write keyword-focused page descriptions
  • Use recommended thumbnail dimensions

For my YouTube videos, I apply these practices:

  • Put main keywords in the title
  • Include main keywords in the description
  • Add main keywords to tags

I use every field Google and YouTube provide for keywords, descriptions, and titles. If the platform gives me a space to add keywords, I fill it with keyword-rich content.

Step 2: Leverage High Domain Authority Platforms

I use a tool called Uber Suggest to check domain authority scores out of 100. My Kajabi website has a domain authority of 7 out of 100, which is typical for solo creators.

My YouTube channel has a domain authority of 100 out of 100 because I'm leveraging an existing platform. YouTube is the second biggest platform in the world for web pages and traffic.

Here are domain authority scores for major platforms:

Platform

Domain Authority Score

YouTube

100/100

LinkedIn

99/100

Instagram

94/100

Companies House (UK)

65/100

My Kajabi Website

7/100

I don't see many of my blog posts from my website ranking high in AI mode. I see a lot of my videos ranking because I leverage YouTube's authority.

I focus on one platform at a time rather than spreading efforts across multiple channels. It's easier to leverage another platform's authority than to build domain authority on my own website from scratch.

Step 3: Create High-Quality Video Content

Video shows up higher in search rankings in AI mode and AI overview than articles. People consume videos over articles, which gives video content an advantage.

I use YouTube video to achieve both high-quality content and domain authority leverage simultaneously. This creates a win-win situation for ranking in AI mode.

When I ask my potential clients where they found me, the progression has evolved over time. Early on, it was word of mouth or network marketing. Then people found my videos on YouTube. Later, they found articles or videos on Google. Now I hear people say they found me through AI or that AI recommended one of my videos.

I put out at least one YouTube video per week and publish articles weekly. This consistent output of SEO-optimized, high-authority, video content positions me to show up in AI mode searches.

AI overview kicks in when someone asks a question in Google search. If the query isn't a question, it might just list the top 10 blue links without AI output. When AI overview appears, it searches the entire web from multiple places and generates a response as a summary.

I can click on the links within AI overview to see where it's pulling information from. The system shows which videos and articles it's using to generate answers. Users can scroll through results, show more options, and even switch to AI mode for a deeper dive with back-and-forth chat functionality.

My video about Kajabi Hero Live shows up in AI overview when someone searches "what is Kajabi Hero Live?" My video about Google Gemini gems appears in results for that query. My tutorial on editing videos using YouTube Studio Editor ranks in normal Google search results and is available for deeper exploration in AI mode.

The three steps work as an 80/20 system. Keyword-rich, structured SEO content forms the 80% foundation. Leveraged authority through high domain authority platforms amplifies reach. High-quality video content provides the competitive edge for ranking in AI mode and AI overview.
