Kajabi Guide For Beginners: Start Here If You're Overwhelmed

kajabi: getting started Apr 22, 2026

If you've just bought Kajabi, or you're thinking about it, you've probably logged in, stared at a blank dashboard with around 100 buttons down the left-hand side, and had no idea where to start. This Kajabi guide for beginners is for you.

I run my entire online business on Kajabi, and I've walked dozens of private clients through this exact process to get set up and get their first sales in the door. I walk you through the five essential things to set up, and the specific order to set them up in, so you can go from blank dashboard to your first online sale.

Key Takeaways

  • Build your Kajabi account in the reverse order to what your first customer will see: domain, payments, website, product, then offer.
  • Start with a coaching product, because it's the quickest and least complicated product to set up.
  • Once your offer is live, ask for the sale by sharing your offer link in as many places as you can.

Why Kajabi Feels Overwhelming for Beginners

If you're feeling overwhelmed right now, that's totally normal. Kajabi does a lot, but you don't have to do everything straight out of the gate.

Here's the thing nobody tells you: build it out in reverse order from what your first customer will actually see. Your customer sees the offer first. Behind the offer is the product. Behind the product is a landing page. Behind that is a payment processor, and behind all of it is your domain.

The five Kajabi setup steps, in order:

  1. Connect your domain
  2. Set up your payment processor
  3. Choose a theme and build a landing page
  4. Create your first product
  5. Create your offer and checkout

Step 1: Connect Your Domain to Kajabi

The first thing to do is connect a domain. If you haven't bought one yet, do that first. Domains are relatively inexpensive, and I explain how to choose one in my guide to registering a domain name.

To connect it, go to Settings in the bottom left-hand corner, then Domain under your site settings. Kajabi will offer you a free subdomain, but I'd set up a custom domain because it looks more professional.

Main Domain or Subdomain?

This is a decision you need to make as a business owner:

  • Main domain: Kajabi hosts your whole business at yourdomain.com. This is what I recommend if you're starting from scratch.
  • Subdomain: Kajabi sits at something like learn.yourdomain.com or training.yourdomain.com. Only use this if you already have a website with another host.

Enter your domain name and follow the setup wizard. It walks you through pointing your name servers (for example through Cloudflare) to Kajabi. It can take 24 to 48 hours to go live, so start this step first and move on while it does.

My own site, timpeakman.com, is set up exactly this way. Everything you see on it sits on Kajabi under my own domain.

Step 2: Set Up Your Payment Processor

Next, connect a way to get paid. Go to Settings, then Payment setup, and click Get started.

Kajabi Payments is essentially Stripe built into Kajabi, with some extra features on top. If you've ever set up Stripe, it's very similar: choose your location, enter your business details, and you're ready to receive money.

On my live checkouts, customers can pay by card or PayPal, and Google Pay or Apple Pay on mobile. The aim is to make paying as frictionless as possible.

Step 3: Choose a Kajabi Theme and Build a Landing Page

With your domain and payments in place, set up your site. Go to Website and, if you haven't already, pick a theme from the template store.

I used a free one called Streamline Home. If you're happy with how it looks, go with it for now. You can always switch templates later and build the new one alongside your live site. I cover this in more detail in my post on Kajabi templates.

Add Your Branding

Update your logo, colours and fonts so the site looks like your brand. Don't let this become a showstopper, though. Start with your homepage and come back to the rest later.

Build One Simple Landing Page

The page that matters most at this stage is a landing page that showcases one offer. This is the link you'll share, and it encourages people to click through to buy.

One of my previous landing pages promoted a webinar training offer. It was very simple: one offer, a clear headline and buttons that take people straight to instant access. I explain why less is more in my guide to creating a landing page in Kajabi.

Step 4: Create Your First Kajabi Product

Now choose a product. Go to Products, click New product, and I'd recommend starting with a coaching programme.

Coaching is the least complicated product to set up. It doesn't take long, you can run one-to-one sessions with each client, and everything is packaged in one place.

In my own 1:1 coaching programme, clients see up to six sessions they can schedule, plus notes, resources, links and PDFs. Every call recording is hosted there so they can refer back to it. I go deeper into why coaching makes the best starting point in my post on creating your first digital product.

Step 5: Create Your Offer and Checkout

The last step is the offer, which is what your customer actually buys. In Kajabi, products and offers are two separate things, so this step links them together.

Go to Pricing, create a new offer, and add your product to it. This is the most important part. I'd link your first offer to your first product: a coaching offer connected to your coaching product.

Kajabi gives you three pricing options:

  • One-time payment: the full amount upfront.
  • Subscription: a recurring payment.
  • Payment plan: the price split into instalments.

With Kajabi Payments switched on, customers also get Apple Pay, Google Pay and buy now, pay later options like Klarna and Clearpay. Your offer needs to be in the same currency as where your business is based for those to work.

The newer checkout layout lets you add your logo or artwork and a short description to remind people what they're buying. Then they enter their email and card details and click pay. I walk through the full setup in my guide to creating an offer in Kajabi.

Ask for the Sale

Once everything is set up, there's one more step that people often skip: ask for the sale.

Share your offer link in as many places as you can. The more people see your offer, the better your chance of welcoming your first customer into your Kajabi account.

Conclusion

Kajabi can feel overwhelming at first, but you only need five things to make your first sale. Connect your domain, set up payments, choose a theme and build a landing page, create a coaching product, then create your offer and checkout.

Work through them in that order, ignore everything else for now, and then put your offer out into the world.
