How to Use AnswerThePublic to Create Content in Demand
Jun 24, 2026When most people make content for YouTube, they ask themselves, "What do I want to say?" To me, that's the wrong question. The right one is, "What is my future client asking, and how are they typing it online?"
I've spent years helping one-person business owners get discovered in search, and the key is showing up for the right people. I walk you through how to use AnswerThePublic to run a reverse domain search on any website, find the keywords your future customers type in, and create content that's already in demand.
Key Takeaways
- Start your content with what your future customers are searching for, not with what you want to say.
- AnswerThePublic's free website analysis shows the keywords and topics linked to your domain, plus a business summary of how AI sees you.
- Its keyword search reveals the exact phrases people use, including the prompts they type into AI tools, so you can mirror their language in your titles and videos.
Why Search Still Matters for Your Content
Search "what is the most visited website in the world" and the reports agree: as of April 2026, it's still Google. Until that changes, I'll keep making content for Google and YouTube, because that's how I show up online and serve my customers.
It's hard to get written articles ranking in Google these days, so my strategy is to create YouTube videos that show up in Google as well as YouTube. Both are owned by Alphabet and cross-promote nicely, which is why I think YouTube is still the biggest opportunity online. I explain more in my post on whether YouTube is dying.
What Is AnswerThePublic?
AnswerThePublic is a free keyword research tool by Neil Patel. You get a few free searches, and you can subscribe, or use his other tool, Ubersuggest, if you want to go deeper. It gives you two useful starting points:
- Website analysis: enter your domain to see the keywords and topics connected to your business.
- Keyword search: enter a keyword to see what people are searching for around it.
How to Use AnswerThePublic for a Reverse Domain Search
First, get clear on who you are and who you serve, or who you'd like to serve if you're just starting out. If you have a website, start here.
- Go to answerthepublic.com and choose the option to analyse your website.
- Paste in your domain. I used timpeakman.com.
- Choose your language and target country. Most of my clients are in the US, so I picked that.
- Click search and let it run.
When the report is ready, you'll see AI-suggested content ideas, the best content for AI visibility, and your main keywords grouped into clusters. For me, one cluster was "how to start a YouTube channel", which led to "start a YouTube channel as an expert". These are phrases I could create content to rank for.
Check the Business Summary
Click the business summary in the top right. It's built from your homepage and shows your business type, key features, unique value proposition, target customers and focus topics. In other words, it's how AI sees you online.
For me, the target customers section was the most interesting, as it suggested three or four different customer types. If you're unsure what to create next or who your future customer is, this can help dial you in.
No Website Yet? Use a Competitor's
If you don't have a domain yet, pick someone in your niche whose business you aspire to or are modelling yours on. Put their domain in instead and see which keywords come out.
Google Yourself First
While the report runs, open a new tab and Google yourself. If you're building a personal brand and want to show up in search, this is a useful exercise.
When I search my name, I mostly see my website, my social profiles, my Companies House listing, my about page, articles I've been featured in and my YouTube channel. Then try your main keyword. When I search "Kajabi" and look at the videos, mine show up on the first page, more than once. That came from a lot of keyword research.
Use AnswerThePublic's Keyword Search
Next, switch to keyword search. Type in a keyword that's relevant to you and your market, whether you're a plumber, a coach or a teacher. I typed "Kajabi" and targeted the US.
What the results show you:
- AI model prompts: what people ask AI tools, such as "how to build a membership site with an all-in-one digital platform". Notice that "Kajabi" isn't in that phrase, so content with those words in the title could be cited even when people don't search the brand name.
- Search engines: phrases like "Kajabi login", "Kajabi LLC" and "Kajabi landing pages". Click into any of them for longer-tail keywords.
- Shopping and social media: how people search for your topic on those platforms.
Click "generate content" next to any phrase, such as "Kajabi landing page templates" or "best platforms for creating and selling online courses", and it gives you a starting point for that piece of content.
Turn Keywords Into Content People Are Searching For
This is how I create content that gets found. I look at the search volumes for different keywords, create content around them, and position it to show up when people search.
Pick one platform to show up on. Mine is YouTube first, because the videos show up in Google too, so you get a double tap. Pinterest is a search engine as well. For more ways to find topics, see my posts on knowing what content to create and YouTube keyword research. Keyword research is also step one of the simplest one-person business setup.
Conclusion
Stop asking what you want to say, and start asking what your future customers are searching for. AnswerThePublic gives you that answer for free, through a reverse domain search, a business summary and a keyword search.
Google yourself and your main keyword to see where you stand, then use your future customers' own language to shape your next piece of content.
