Kajabi Course Template: Model What is Already Working
Oct 09, 2025I walk you through everything to do with Kajabi course templates in this post. How to find them, how to design them, and how to implement them in every course you publish. If you are an aspiring entrepreneur feeling overwhelmed by the idea of designing your first online course, this is for you. I simplify the process so you can set up a professional course area without needing to be a designer.
You do not need to start from scratch every time you build a new course product. I show you my simple strategy of duplicating what is already working, so you can launch faster and spend less time on design.
Key Takeaways
- Kajabi courses have two distinct parts: the Outline (your content) and the Customize area (your design and templates).
- You can browse, preview, and install course templates directly inside any Kajabi course product to get a professional look without design skills.
- The fastest way to launch a new course is to duplicate an existing course product, carrying over the template and customization you have already built.
How to Find Kajabi Course Templates in a New Account
If you are starting with a brand new Kajabi account and have not created any products yet, the process is straightforward. Head to All Products, and you will see an empty state with a Get Started button. Click it, select Courses, and then click Get Started again.
Kajabi will walk you through a wizard to build out your course. You will choose between an evergreen course or a course cohort. I have a whole separate series on how to build out your course content, but for this post I am focusing specifically on templates and how to get the design side right.
Outline vs Customize: The Two Parts of Your Kajabi Course
When you are building out a program in Kajabi, whether it is a course or any other product, there are two distinct areas you need to understand.
The first is the Outline. This is the actual content you are building out — your lessons, your videos, your copy. Think of it as the substance of what your students will experience as they work through the program.
The second is the Customize area. This is the style and design layer. It controls how your course looks visually — the layout, the branding, the overall feel. You can build out your content however you want your students to experience it, and then use the Customize area to make it look professional.
Anytime you want to preview how your course presents to students, you can click the eye icon inside the Outline view. That shows you exactly what your clients or customers will see when they go through the program.
How to Install a Kajabi Course Template
Once you understand the two-part structure, installing a template is simple. Head to the Customize tab within your course product and click Install Template.
You will see a library of templates to browse. The first few are hero-made templates from creators like Penny in Your Pocket and Jiffy Courses Online. Scroll through and you can preview any template to see how your course would look with that design applied.
If you like the look of a template, select it and click Install Template at the bottom. Kajabi will install it within your course — give it a moment to process. Once installed, you can click on any template in your list and, just like with Kajabi website templates, you have several options:
- Export to a zip file to save the template for use in another account
- Upload a template from a zip file into your current course
- Activate the template to make it live on your course product
The key step is to customize the template to match your branding, then set it to Activate once you are happy with the look and feel.
The Fastest Way: Duplicate an Existing Course Design
Here is where the real time-saving comes in. If you have already spent time customizing a course product — getting the homepage right, styling each post, making sure the header and footer look the way you want — you do not need to start over when you create your next course.
Instead of installing a fresh template on a new product, I simply duplicate the existing course product I have already built. Go to Products, click the three dots next to the course you want to copy, and select Duplicate. You can duplicate it into the same site or into a different Kajabi site if you have more than one.
What this does is create a brand new product with the same template, the same customization, and the same build as the original. Yes, you will still need to go in and update the lessons — swap out videos, adjust the content, tweak the copy for the new program. But the entire design framework carries over.
This is essentially the same approach I use with landing page templates. Once you have invested the time to get one product looking right, duplicating it for the next one saves hours of design work. You are modelling what is already working rather than starting from a blank course template every time.
Why Modelling What Works Saves You Time
The strategy here is simple. Build one course product properly — take the time to get the template, the branding, and the customization exactly how you want it. Then use that as your foundation for every course you create after it.
This approach works across Kajabi. Whether you are setting up your website, your landing pages, or your course products, the principle is the same. Get one right, then duplicate and adapt.
You do not need to be a designer to create a beautiful, cohesive learning experience. The built-in Kajabi templates give you a strong starting point, and the duplicate function means you never have to rebuild from scratch.
Conclusion
Kajabi course templates give you a professional starting point, and duplicating an existing course product is the fastest way to launch something new without losing the design work you have already done. Focus on getting one course looking exactly how you want it, and then model that across everything else you build. It keeps your branding consistent and saves you significant time on every new product.
